2016 MMR Week 5: Aggies at Gamecocks
Wait, I thought Muschamp was a coach at texas/Florida/Auburn??
Oh yeah, Mr Excitement is back on our schedule, and like a bad date, has appeared in a place we didn’t expect and aren’t happy to see. This time "Will the Thrill" is coaching in Columbia. This man is like a virus that everyone in the SEC is catching…and he better stay away from us!
Texas A&M at South Carolina
The good news is that we are 4-0 for the third straight year. I think I might have been a sophomore the last time we accomplished this feat (1939-41). The bad news is that this is October, and we don’t seem to play well in recent years in October.
The formula for success in this game is very simple:
No turnovers…protect the ball
Stop the running game on early downs
South Carolina is coming into this game licking their wounds from a road loss at Kentucky. What looked more promising for the Gamecocks after their first game has now become a question of how good this team really is?
The people to watch from A&M are the usual suspects. Let’s see if we need to play Myles Garrett the whole game. He is a little banged up after the win over the piggies, but I would a comfortable lead would mean we get to give the big guy a rest.
Trevor Knight has a slow start in the Arkansas game, but did enough to keep us in the game and then turned on the passing game in the second half to give us the win. While his statistics are good, and he’s no making dumb mistakes, it has been more interesting to see him run the ball. Not that he he’s Johnny Football, but he is starting to pull together some JFF-like numbers in his first four games: 1000+ yds passing, 300+ yds rushing, and 12 TD’s. Not bad for a first year quarterback…
Pretty straight forward for A&M, stop the slow Will machine from keeping the ball for 30 minute a half, don’t give it away, and score touchdowns instead of kicking field goals and we can have some fun in Charleston after the game. Fail in two of these areas and we are ignoring Admiral Ackbar’s warning.
